The Unblocked Method

Do You Need Human Design or the Enneagram for This to Work?

No. I'll start there, because I talk about both tools so much that women assume they're the method.

By Amy Sanders

They're not. The Unblocked Method works on the loop. Experience, meaning, response, result, reinforcement. That loop runs in every woman who has ever made a text mean something, whether or not she's ever heard the word Projector or taken a single quiz. Awareness, Alignment, Abundance work on their own.

Human Design and the Enneagram are tools I use. They make the work stronger. They don't make it work.

Why I added them in the first place

For years I was fascinated by one question. Why can two women experience the exact same event and have two completely different reactions?

One gets rejected and thinks, okay, not my door, not my people. Another gets rejected and thinks, I'm not good enough. One gets criticism and gets curious. Another spends three days trying to prove herself. Same circumstance. Completely different internal experience.

The loop told me what was happening. It didn't tell me why the meaning step came out so differently in different women. That's where the tools became useful.

What the Enneagram adds

I'm not nearly as interested in what you do as in the motivation underneath it.

Take two successful women. Same behavior. One is driven by a need to prove her value through achievement. Another is chasing security. A third genuinely loves the challenge of building something. Same result, three different engines.

Or people-pleasing. Two women say yes when they want to say no. One is earning love by being needed. One is avoiding conflict. One can't stand being seen as selfish. One believes good women don't disappoint people. The behavior tells me something. The motivation tells me much more.

That's what the Enneagram gives the loop: a language for the strategy underneath the behavior. What are you trying to get? What are you trying to avoid? What feels threatening to your identity? It makes the meaning step visible faster, because it tells you which fear is most likely to be writing the story.

What Human Design adds

The Enneagram helped me understand the patterns a woman developed to stay safe. I also wanted to understand how she naturally operates when she's not trying to be everybody else.

Think about how much advice you take in. Wake up at five. Never wake up at five. Hustle harder. Slow down. Post every day. Only post when inspired. Make decisions fast. Sleep on every decision. No wonder we're confused. We're constantly told there's one way to be successful, one way to make decisions, one way to live.

What if there isn't? What if part of alignment is learning how you actually operate?

That's what Human Design gives the loop: a lens on how you naturally use energy, how you naturally make decisions, how you move through the world, and where you're most susceptible to picking up other people's conditioning. It shapes the aligned response. When you ask "what would create evidence for the woman I'm becoming," Human Design helps make sure that response is yours and not borrowed from someone built completely differently.

The three questions together

So the Enneagram asks: what strategy have you learned to use to stay safe?

Human Design asks: how do you naturally operate when you're not forcing yourself into somebody else's way?

And the identity work asks the question underneath both: who have you decided you are because of all of it?

Growth isn't always about becoming someone new. Sometimes it's just separating who you are from what you learned you had to be. The tools don't define you or put you in a box. They give you more information to work with. That's it. More angles to see yourself from.

What neither tool is

Your Enneagram number is not an excuse. Your Human Design chart is not an excuse either.

"I'm a Three, so of course I overwork." No. "I'm a Projector, I can't do that, I haven't been invited properly." No. "I'm an Eight, that's just how I am, people need to deal with it." No.

Please don't take a tool designed to create self-awareness and use it to build another cage around yourself, or to justify treating people badly. Self-awareness should give you more choice and more freedom, not fewer options. These aren't boxes. They're mirrors. They give you another angle to see yourself from, and then you decide what to do with it.

And I didn't put them together so anything could spit out a personality report telling you you're special. We don't need another personality report. I put them together because when you look through one lens alone, you miss things.

So what do you actually need?

One real thing that keeps happening. That's the only entry requirement.

If you don't know your type in either system, you can still run the loop today. What happened? What did I make it mean? How did I respond? What did that create? What did that reinforce? Which identity is running the loop? That works on anyone.

And if you do know your types, or you want to, they'll make the meaning step faster and the aligned response cleaner. That's the real shape of it. The method is the engine. The tools are the headlights.

You are so much more than your patterns. You are more than your Enneagram number or your Human Design chart, and more than the strategies you developed to get through everything you've gotten through. All of that is information. It's powerful when you use it to create choice, and useless when you use it to build another identity you have to live inside.

Bring something real. Start there.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to know my Human Design or Enneagram type to use The Unblocked Method?

No. The method works on the Default Identity Loop, which runs in everyone regardless of type. The six questions that run the loop and the aligned rep that interrupts it don't require either system. Human Design and the Enneagram are tools that make the work faster and sharper, not prerequisites for it.

What does the Enneagram add to The Unblocked Method?

A language for the motivation underneath the behavior. Two women can do the same thing for completely different reasons, and the Enneagram tells you which fear or strategy is most likely writing the meaning you attach to an experience. That makes the meaning step of the loop visible sooner.

What does Human Design add to The Unblocked Method?

A lens on how you naturally operate: how you use energy, how you make decisions, how you move through the world, and where you tend to absorb other people's conditioning. It shapes the aligned response so the "woman you're becoming" is built the way you're actually built, not the way someone else is.

Can my Enneagram type or Human Design type be an excuse for my pattern?

No. "I'm a Three so I overwork" and "I'm a Projector so I can't" use a self-awareness tool to build a cage. Both systems exist to give you more choice, not fewer options. If a type is being used to justify a pattern or to excuse mistreating someone, it's being misused.

Which should I start with if I'm new to all of this?

Start with the loop. Pick one thing that keeps happening and run the questions. If you want more context after that, take the Enneagram quiz first, because it speaks directly to the meaning step, then Human Design for the aligned response. Inside The Mirror you can take both, but the loop is where the work begins either way.

Catch your loop while it’s running

Reading about the loop is a start. Catching it in your own life, in the moment it runs, is where it shifts. The Mirror walks you through my Unblocked Method one real situation at a time, and your Human Design and Enneagram take it deeper when you know them.
